SURF
(students understanding real faith) is the name and the mission of Mandarin Presbyterian’s middle school department. We love to just go crazy for Christ and offer a variety of programs and events for every step of your faith adventure.
Hang 10
If you are just starting out, come to our Hang 10 program. Hang 10 comes from a verse in the Bible where Jesus explains that he is not here to steal away our fun with a bunch of silly rules and with religion. Instead his purpose is that, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10) That’s exciting news to us. Hang 10 begins with some time to hang out with friends . Next we go into our programming time which consists of games, music, skits, etc. From there, we open God’s Word and usually Tiffany or Daniel give a talk. Afterwards, we head to small groups where you get the opportunity to discuss what the talk was about and ask questions. Small groups are based on grade and gender and have at least one adult and one high school leader who love middle schoolers. This program takes place Wednesday nights during the school year from 6:00 – 8:00pm.
Dive In
If you’re more interested in God and you are ready to go to deeper and open up your Bible, then get here Sunday mornings for Dive In. This is where we get nice and deep with our discussions of Christ and the Bible. There are usually some crazy games and yummy doughnut eating. It is a fun time to learn more about being a Christian and have the stories from the Bible come alive. Dive In meets Sunday mornings from 9:00-10:15.
Go M.A.D.
Jesus told us that He came to earth to serve and not to be served. Our hope is that we can model our lives in the same way. At various times throughout the year we have special events planned for our middle schoolers to Go MAD – ‘Go Make A Difference’. This could be helping out with the children’s ministry’s annual Pumpkin Jam, serving food at a homeless shelter, loving on refugee kids, or serving in any way that God would allow us to show His love.
SURFboard
We believe that Middle Schoolers have awesome ideas and passion and really can change the world around them. SURFboard is for 7th and 8th graders who want to put their ideas into action. It is for kids who want to grow deeper with Christ. It is for those who want to serve their fellow middle schoolers and who want to lead in their schools and at Hang 10 to show them who Christ is and what He is doing in their lives. We meet one Sunday a month and sign-ups begin in September.
Holy Ground
About 4 times a year we have a very special worship experience just for middle and high school kids. Hopefully this will be a place where you can leave the world behind, take off your sandals, and know that God is near and the ground that you are standing on is Holy.
Events
Throughout the year we have different events designed for our middle school kids to invite their friends. In September we head down to Orlando for Night of Joy or Rock the Universe (a night of Christian concerts and fun rides!). We have our annual Fruit Bowl where hundreds of middle school kids come out to get messy and compete for their small group to be Fruit Bowl champs. We have Christmas parties, competitions, and all kinds of fun outings. Our favorite event is the Daytona Weekend in April. For some reason Jesus meets us every year on the Daytona Beach and lives are changed. To see videos, photos, polls, and to download a registration form go to the Daytona page.In the summer we usually have one event a week.
