Protégé FAQ's

What is the Protégé Residency Program?

A one year residency program for young adults 21-28.  The focus of this experience is Christian formation and leadership development. Protégé aims to raise up a new generation of Christian leaders through on-the-job ministry training, intentional community living, and in-depth discipleship. This experience is made up of 3 core elements:

  • Meaningful Ministry
  • Intentional Community
  • Intensive Discipleship

How long is the residency?

The residency lasts one year, with a potential of a second year to be determined during your first year. Protégé begins in mid-August and runs through July the following year.

How does the housing work?

We have the wonderful gift of a 3 bedroom/2 bathroom house on the river property adjacent to our campus. This will serve as the “Protégé house” and will be the meeting/community space for all residents. Men and women will not live in the same house – we will provide a second location for those not living in the Protégé house. Housing and utilities are free for all residents in our program. *Married applicants will be considered and live separately from the other Protégé houses.

What other financial costs do you need to consider?

Protégés will need their own transportation and will cover the cost of their food, gas, insurance and entertainment. You may need to work a part-time job in order to support yourself.

What will a week look like in the Protégé program?

Each intern will work around 25 hours a week, depending on their role in the church. We will work with you to arrange a schedule that gives you the ability to work another part time job and allow Sabbath rest.

Can you raise funds for this internship?

You can raise funds (like missionaries do) in order to cover food, gas and other expenses. Money can be sent directly to MPC in a fund designated for you. We will talk with you further if you want to pursue this as a possibility.

What is the strategy of leadership development for Protégé?

The Protégé program seeks to develop your leadership skills and build discipleship through an intentional living and learning experience. This happens through monthly leadership and learning experiences led by pastoral staff where there will be opportunities to discuss books, theology, and mission. This is also a hands-on-ministry experience. Each Protégé serves on a specific ministry team where they learn the skills of the ministry they serve in.

What does the application process look like?

Take time to read through all application documents. It is important that you understand the basics of our vision, philosophy and theology as a church before you apply. After we receive your application, we will set up an interview with the Protégé staff - in person or through Zoom. This conversation allows us to have more in depth discussion and will help to determine whether Protégé is a match and whether or not there will be further interview steps.
